The OEI announced on Thursday that it will once again organize the largest scientific outreach event in Ibero-America, the “6th Ibero-American Night of Researchers,” on September 26 and 27 in Paraguay, with climate change as the main theme.
According to the OEI, this project has already reached 18 Ibero-American countries, involving over 300 institutions and the participation of around a thousand researchers.
The initiative aims to promote scientific vocations and science dissemination in Ibero-America, with climate change as the central topic this year.
This edition will emphasize work aimed at contributing to mitigating climate change effects in the region, as well as related issues such as sustainability, energy transition, and the social and environmental transformation of Ibero-America, among others.
The “Night” will be held simultaneously in 18 countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Portugal, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay, and Paraguay — the host country responsible for holding the opening ceremony with support from the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT).
The OEI urges researchers throughout the region interested in presenting and sharing their scientific work and advances to register by July 15.
As part of its commitment to promoting an increasingly sustainable and environmentally conscious Ibero-America, the OEI has developed several projects in recent years to strengthen this focus through education, science, and culture.
Among these is Energytran, an initiative coordinated by the OEI since 2024 with funding from the European Commission, which aims “to contribute to a just, clean, and sustainable energy transition in Latin America and Europe, based on a horizontal cooperation model and a social approach, involving research centers and universities from both sides of the Atlantic.”
The OEI also reminds that it will participate in the upcoming COP30 to be held in November in Belém, Brazil, where it will play a “leading role as co-organizer.
